We have just learned today on December 28, 2022 with great sadness the death of a very good friend Professor Khemaïs NAGATI.
Founding President of the Tunisian Society of Nutritional Sciences, he is one of the pioneers and eminent Tunisian and North African Endocrinologists Diabetologists Nutritionists.
Head of the Nutrition and Diabetology Department of the National Higher Institute of Nutrition (1990 – 2000), he also directed the Higher School of Health Sciences and Techniques from 1991 to 1998.
He was President of the Tunisian Diabetes Society from 1982 to 1998, member of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and President of the IDF MENA Region from 1997 – 2000.
He is also a founding member of the Pan-African Diabetes Group in 1991 and President of this Group from 1993 to 1996.
Brilliant medical and scientific mind, with exceptional human and relational qualities, he is a great Maghrebian who actively and spontaneously participated in the various scientific and medico-social activities in Tunisia but also and strongly at the level of Africa and Morocco. I remind you that the Moroccan League for the Fight against Diabetes paid him a vibrant tribute during the National Symposium on Diabetes and Nutrition on June 6, 2014 in Rabat.
For my part, our first meetings took place more than 35 years ago. Our first very professional relations have been strengthened to become very fraternal, over time and multiple meetings and congresses in the Maghreb as well as in Africa or Europe. Many common Maghreb, African and European friends will recognize each other through these lines.
On this painful occasion, on my own behalf and that of the members of the Moroccan League for the Fight against Diabetes, we would like to pay a vibrant tribute to this very dear friend. And we offer our sincere condolences to his small family, to his friends and to the entire medical and university family of Tunisia and the Maghreb.
We pray that his soul rests in peace and that God welcomes him in his holy mercy.
